Chinese characters is the symbol to record language, the tool to transmit culture. Writingerrors will influence people’s communication and hinder the spreading and inheriting theessence of our culture.In2012version of the compulsory education curriculum standard for junior middleschool, it is clearly pointed out that the significance of reading classical Chinese. It is saidthat” students should be guided to read the classic Chinese in order to improve theirappreciation and taste of classic masterpieces…They should acquire the ability tocomprehend the general meaning of classical Chinese works with the help of explanatory noteand dictionaries and recite some excellent works.” Yantai Chinese teaching department hasalso required the reciting and dictating of classic Chinese to improve students’ ability forcorrect writing the Chinese characters.The classic Chinese works we have selected are all outstanding masterpieces with thebaptism of thousands of years. The recitation and dictation of these has a crucial role intransforming Chinese culture.Writing the classic Chinese from memory can help teachers find out many wrongly written ormispronounced characters. Due to the different application of words between ancient Chineseverse and modern Chinese, the wrong words appear frequently in students’ dictation of classicChinese.This paper mainly expounds the significance of ancient poetry dictation and analyses themajor problem appearing in the dictation. Combining with the current language papers forYantai City senior high school entrance examination and students’ usual practice,accompanied with the sorting of the ancient poetry and prose asked to be recited, the authorwill summarize and do the statistic on the errors and problems students have in their dictation.By analysis, it concludes that the major mistakes include: misspelling (more strokes or lessstrokes), wrong structure, sheer fabrication, non-standard writing, homonyms etc. The authorexplores the reasons from students, teachers and society respectively and summarizes thecharacteristics of these errors. The article will also explore how to help the junior middleschool students correct these errors made in the dictation, which mainly includes thesignificance and the strategic of correcting the wrong words in classic Chinese dictation.
