Consumption as one of the four links of social reproduction is the ultimate goal of socialproduction activities and an essential practice activity in social life. People’s consumptiondemands, habits, contents and patterns are affected by several factors such as social economicdevelopment conditions, national consumptive habits and self consumption concept. Collegestudents as successors of construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics shoulder thehistorical mission in socialist modernization and great rejuvenation. Thus, their healthy growthinvolves the future socioeconomic development. College students as an important social grouphave tremendous consumptive capacity and comparatively independent consuming psychologyand behaviors. Now in their growth phase, their world outlook is still in the process of formationand development. Their consumption concept not only greatly reflects the features and nationalmental outlook in our times, but also refracts their life attitudes and value orientation. Specialstress on their consumption concept’s formation and development therefore will enrichideological education contents, cultivate virtues, help them form healthy attitudes, correct worldoutlook and fatherly set up a typical example for mainstream consumption concept. Based onIdeological and Political Education, this paper sets to research on Chinese contemporary collegestudents’ consumption concept by document research, etc. Firstly it analyzes the main problemsand the causes in their consumption concept such as overemphasizing material consumption,ignoring spirit expenditure, irrational and excessive consumption, lack of financial knowledge,etc. Then combining our actual students’ consumption conditions, it points out several practicalsuggestions: the nation should attach importance to this problem and make relative rules andregulations for guidance; colleges should strengthen theoretical education, consolidate thecorrect knowledge of consumption, and carry out practical consumptive activities; familiesshould create a healthy and harmonious consumption concept; students themselves shouldstrengthen self-education, establish self-disciplines and cultivate reasonable consumptionconcept.
