Procrastination is the tendency to voluntarily delay one’s actions or decisions,accompaniedby subjective discomfort. The procrastination can not only reduce academic performance, butalso may cause negative emotional experiences, such as anxiety, depression, and even affect thephysical and mental health. Future time perspective is individual cognition,emotion andbehavioral trend on future individual developmental possibility.Many studies have shown thatfuture time perspective and perceived stress have significant correlation with procrastination, butit is not clear how future time perspective affect procrastination. So on the basis of previousresearch, this study will examine the relationship between future time perspective, perceivedstress and procrastination of medical students, and discuss the role of perceived stress betweenfuture time perspective and procrastination.In this research420medical students were selected from Jining Medical College,397effective after stratified cluster sampling. They completed self-report measures of AvoidantProcrastination Scale, Arousal Procratination Scale, Perceived Stress Scale and Future TimePerspective Scale.The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between future timeperspective, perceived stress and procrastination, and makes the following conclusions:1. Overall, procrastination is not very serious. But23.1%medical students appear avoidantprocrastination and20.6%medical students appear arousal procrastination. The level ofperceived stress of medical students is not high but16.2%reported that pressure is quite large.The level of the future time perspective of medical students were higher than the middle on thewhole, but19.4%have a relatively low level of future time perspective.2. There were significant gender differences and grade differences in the avoidantprocrastination of Medical students, and significant gender differences in the arousalprocrastination. It showed that the avoidant procrastination degree of senior students is moreserious than that of fresh students and junior students.The scores of boys are significantly higherthan girls in the avoidant procrastination and arousal procrastination.There was significantinteraction between living and whether or not one child on future time perspective. There wassignificant interaction among gender, living and grade on future efficacy. The scores of girls aresignificantly higher than boys and there was significant interaction between living and whether or not one child on future image. There was significant interaction between gender and grade onthe tension.3. Significant negative relationships have been found between Future time perspective, thefive dimensions and avoidant procrastination, arousal procrastination. There was a significantpositive relationship between perceived stress, its two dimensions and avoidant procrastination,arousal procrastination. Significant negative relationships have been found between far-reachgoal orientation and out of control feeling, perceived stress. There was no correlationrelationship between far-reach goal orientation and the tension. Significant negative relationshipshave been found between behavioral commitment, future efficacy, future purpose consciousness,future image and perceived stress, its two dimensions.4. Out of control feeling and tension play mediation effect between behavioral commitment,future purpose consciousness and avoidant procrastination. Out of control feeling play amediation effect between behavioral commitment, future purpose consciousness and arousalprocrastination.
