The relationships between governments and universities have always been closelyconcerned by higher pedagogy circles. Addressing these relationships properly is of greatsignificance for universities’ development. Moreover, it is conducive to promoting soundand well-organized development of higher education. This dissertation introduced TalcottParson’s structural functionalism and studied the relationships between governments anduniversities from the perspective of the structural functionalism, which included threeaspects. Firstly, governments should provide guidance for universities’ development.Secondly, universities should be endowed with adequate power for their normal operationby governments. Thirdly, universities should be operated in accordance with their ownregulation. Therefore, this dissertation discussed the relationships between governments inmodern times and Peking university. Specifically, they are relationships between the Qinggovernment(1616-1911) and Peking Imperial University, relationships between the Beijinggovernment(1912-1927) and Peking university, as well as relationships between nationalgovernments(1927-1949) and Peking university. At last, the author put forwardenlightenment to problems concerning the failing realization of relationships between thepresent government and universities. |
