It has important guiding significance to study the history of University Student Association and summarize the experience of development. This paper takes the University Student Associations of Peking University in the period of 1917 to 1927 as the study object, sums up their characteristics, analyzes their developing reasons, and shows their education role from the perspective of the hidden curriculum, and at last gets some enlightenment to the building of the current associations. Many factors spurred the rapid development of University Student Associations of Peking University, such as, the transition of modern society, the differentiation of unified regime, the awakening of nationalism, Cai Yuan-pei's thinking on education, the instruction and sustainment of famous teachers and scholars, the inflow of foreign new thoughts, the circumstances of campus, and the support of the press, etc. Those factors made the associations of Beijing University present diversity, patriotism, opening, forgivingness, initiative, democracy, and independence. Associations satisfied the need of the students in Peking University to develop personality, and accidently perfect their selfhood. This kind of achievement can not be achieved in the classroom teaching. At present, the associations emerge constantly, but there are some problems. The development of associations is counteracted by the lack of correct cognition of University Student Association, the alienation of teachersand associations, the narrowness of the developing space of associations, the inappropriate construction of the content of the association activities, which go against the educational role of University Student Association. But at that time Beijing University did very well while dealing with such problems, their experience worth using for reference.
