The case method of teaching is a new educational theory gradually develops by conforming to the times, which possesses epoch characteristic and based on constructivism, cognitive psychology, humanism. It aims at inspiring learners’ inherent academic motivation and fostering their aggressive and explorative spirit. At one side, the learners can develop their self-concept and teaching belief and value in order to become the problem solver; on the other side, the teachers can also obtain personal reward containing ameliorating the teaching method, being close to students and studying educational theory and so on.The case method has many special characters:firstly, it exhibits first-rank, authentic and representative case resource; secondly, it set up harmonious and cheerful atmosphere for students in order to inspire them to research into problems the case shows to them and put forward views by themselves. Though the process of discussion, they not only train their thought, but also enhance the ability of analyzing and dealing with problems.This thesis consists of six parts, which attempts to put forward the topic named the case-teaching application and research in the classroom teaching of English curriculum and teaching methodology for discussion, which is on the basis of researching into the case and case teaching and is directed against the current situation of cultivating English teachers in higher normal universities. The six parts shows as following:The first part is introduction, mainly stating this text’s researching origin, researching subject and meaning, researching train of thought and method and the corresponding summary. It is said that a good beginning is half of success. The first step of the author’s research is that carefully studying the researching accomplishments of the case teaching abroad and local.The second part is the necessity and feasibility of case-teaching application and research in the classroom teaching of English curriculum and teaching methodology. It consists of four aspects. First of all, the New Curriculum Standards offer the teaching standard; secondly, the character of the English curriculum and teaching methodology itself provides the teaching content; thirdly, the development evaluation supplies the assess standard; last but not least, the teaching present situation needing further reformation furnishes manipulation practicability.The third part is implementing blue print design of applying case teaching method in classroom teaching of English curriculum and teaching methodology. Research object, teaching content, teaching aims, choosing case and research schedule are presented by this part. The procedures are divided into five parts:the first is early preparation; the second is presenting the case; the third is putting forward questions; the fourth is case discussion; the fifth is case summary. Food and fodder should go ahead of troops and horses. The author designed the implementary plan to carry out the research smoothly and successfully.The fourth part is an example of carrying case-teaching into classroom teaching of English curriculum and teaching methodology. A particular classroom teaching example in Class Two, Grade Three in an English college of Chongqing S University is introduced in this part.The fifth part is the problems and suggestions of case teaching method in classroom teaching of English curriculum and teaching methodology.The sixth part is the summation and reflection about case teaching method in classroom teaching of English curriculum and teaching methodology. The author concluded all the front study and reflected the tora and experience in the interest of bringing forward the further constructive notion.
