With the promotion of quality education and the deepening of new English curriculum, theold conservative elementary English teaching method which is called "poured-style" is beingchallenged,followed by is the game teaching method which represents the new educationalphilosophy. Playing games which benefits a lot in child’s learning new things in a real andfreedom way, is the child’s nature. It also provides a good method to English teachers, as Englishis the second language which there is a certain degree of difficulty for Chinese students.Theseare the background of this paper.At the beginning of this article is the definition of game teaching method in primary-schoolEnglish class. Such as what the game is; what the English game teaching is; the definition andnew understanding of game’s role in primary English class.The second chapter is focusing on the characteristics of the formation of children’s language,children’s second language acquisition theory which is combined with the evolution of linguistics,psychology and other disciplines. On this basis, the game’s role on second language acquisitionand it’s features is further analyzed.The third part of the article is a case study on a primary school English teacher who ismainly tracked by the author. It mainly conclude two parts: the first one, excerpting this teacher’sclassic teaching record, which is to understand the applications of game teaching method; whatfollowing is the in-depth interviews with this teacher, to understand the intentions of gamedesigning, which includes the reasons on game designing, the effects and the improvements.The last chapter is to summarize the existing problems and analysis strategies of Englishgame teaching in primary school. First, the emergence of the problems, such as single-types,monotonous contents, complicated game rules and low participation. For these shortcomings, theauthor proposes some solution strategies which are: game designing must have a strong purpose,game contents must to be rich to have good game design effectiveness, and other subjects exceptthe good ones are involved in games. At last it also makes several requests for teachers to teachin an effective way.The conclusion is a summary of the application of English games teaching method inprimary school, including the effects of games teaching method for children’s SLA, and thesignificance of solutions which proposed to solve problems commonly appear in English classes.
