First grade of primary school, as the initial stage of normal school education of children, is the vital transition phase of children growing. In this phase, the children whether play the roles of students well, adapt to the new environment and new life, which decide the attitude and the trend of children to the school life in some degree and usually affect the whole primary school stage even the whole student stage of children. So it is necessary to pay attention on the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school. According to the case of Y primary school in Chongqing Municipality, the author investigated the current situation and the existing problems of the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school, analyzed the reasons and presented countermeasures which promote the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school. The paper divided into five parts:Introductory theory part firstly elaborated the research origin and the research significance, secondly combed the related domestic and overseas research status, finally explained the research idea and the research methods.The first part of the main body firstly explained the connotation of the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school which is a process of adjusting the inner psychological pattern and the extrinsic behavior pattern to adapt the social desirability of student role after the children getting into primary school and acquiring the student identities.Study, code of conduct and self-service are the three major role missions of first grade students. The author defined the well-adapting and the bad-adapting according to these three aspects and then illustrated the significances of the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school to the self-development of children and the education working of school. The second part of the main body firstly introduced the profile of the Y primary school, and then summarized that the role adaptation of first grade students in Y primary school mainly divided into conflicting, adjusting and maintaining these three phases according to status survey. The author found that the role adaptation of first grade students in Y primary school had these problems:some new students adapting bad on study; some new students adapting bad on code of conduct and some new students adapting bad on self-service.The third part of the main body explored the reasons which induced the bad role adaptation of first grade students in primary school. The first reason is the pressure brought by the role-load. The pressure mainly presented that the expectation of adults for the role of new students is not reasonable. Adults ignored the life property of children and misinterpreted the connotation of good child and good student, thus they give the children role pressure.The second reason is the deviation in the role study. In the role study before entering a school, the entrance education became formalistic at the next period of the top class in a kindergarten and the kindergarten education approached to primary school education. After entering the school, the regular education has some problems which include simple inflexible methods, process valuing control more than education, teachers misunderstanding the cognition in education and lack of parents’ supports.The fourth part of the main body presented some countermeasures to promote the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school. Firstly, kindergartens should develop high quality education which aims at the entering preparation and emphasize cultivating the social adapting capacity and interest of study. Kindergartens should activate the anxiety of children to go to primary school by various methods. Secondly, promoting the role adaptation of first grade students in primary school should vitally rely on the directing and cultivating by the primary school. In the primary school, teachers should recognize the children correctly and emphasize replacing the relationship of parents; teachers should realize teaching like a game; the family and the school should establish co-direction pattern.
