Advocated by the new curriculum reform, teaching mode should be based onthe students’ interest in learning and their life experience, taking into account thelevel of students cognition. In such a mode, students should acquire knowledge andsolve problems in the way of self-directed learning, cooperating and inquiry learning.In face of the needs of the new curriculum, the mode of research-based studythrough inter-group communication and cooperative research in English courses hasbecome one of the ideal choices for the current curriculum reform. It will transfer thetraditional teaching mode to a student-centered and teacher-leading research-basedmode, which is based on students’ self-directed learning and cooperative discussionin groups.This thesis builds the frame of applying the research-study method to SeniorEnglish Class Teaching by studying and analyzing the research-study theory, and testthrough empirical study on whether this theory can improve students’ reading abilityand their English integrated ability. It presents that the application of theresearch-study method to Senior English Class Teaching is authentically effective onthe basis of using questionnaires, literature research and comparative research andthe results of teaching experiments conducted between the experimental class andcontrol class.The paper consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction which isabout the background and the necessity of experimental study as well as theconcepts and aims of research learning. The second chapter includes the theoreticalbasis of research. It focuses on the present situation of research learning at homeand abroad, the theoretical principles and its advantages in Senior high schoolEnglish Teaching. The third chapter introduces the practical experiences that researchlearning uses in classrooms, including experimental aims, experimental hypothesis,experimental subjects, intelligence analysis of the subjects, experimental process, theimplementation method, and cases involved in theories of research learning. Thefourth chapter analyzes and summarizes the questionnaires in the experimental process and the statistics from the questionnaires. The last chapter includesexperimental conclusions as well as reflections and improvement measures.
