Research On The Transformation Students' Learning Style Based On Inquiry Learning

In 2001, Ministry of education launched a new curriculum reform, put forward the new concept of curriculum,improving the biological science literacy, and advocating inquiry learning for all students. The new curriculum pays more attention to Lifelong development and learning style development, especially inquiry learning ability. Inquiry learning is the process of students' participation in practice, so as to obtain development of ability and positive attitude to explore. The application of inquiry learning is conducive to the development of questioning, understanding, connection, innovation, construction and so on. It can stimulate enthusiasm of learning biology and promote the change of learning style. As one of the main factors, teachers should focus on the development of students' learning ability.In this paper, I used Literature review, questionnaire survey, experimentation, and scaling method to study. By the investigation of the status of "middle school students biology learning style", we preliminarily understand students' learning situation. The results indicate that students' learning styles have been improved in some degree after more than 10 years attempts. The students can no longer pay much attention to the reception learning, memorizing and mechanical training, but their autonomous, cooperative, inquiry learning abilities and awareness is still very weak. Especially, they are still lack of the abilities of questioning, understanding, constructing, and solving problems. This does not conform to the requirement of curriculum reform on students' ability, and this status still needs to develop and change.The interview with teachers also reflects the problems of learning style. Teachers know little about learning style, and usually they just teach and test. Thus it in a certain extent hinders the change of students' learning style. Based on the results of survey and interview, the thesis focuses on teaching activities to develop inquiry learning ability by experiment and scale.According to the student's learning style situation and teachers' teaching experience, combined with Grade 7 biology text book(Beijing Normal University Press), we teach in the experimental class and the control class respectively. In the experimental class,life related, inquiry experiment, and "do" biology methods were applied. In the teaching process we observed students' learning style development. After teaching practice, according to Junior High School Biology Inquiry Learning Literacy Scale,we evaluated students' development quantitatively. Results showed that the students in the experimental class ‘inquiry learning ability was significantly higher than that of the control group. The ability of questioning, contacting, construction, and scientific exploration has better development, and was significant difference of class control. The results show that teaching activities can affect student learning style, and help inquiry learning development in a certain extent.Based on the teaching practice and interviews, for changing learning style and advocating inquiry learning, the paper initially proposed changing teaching perception, adopt measures suiting local conditions and students aptitude, using modern teaching strategy and diversified evaluation system. But, because of the tight experiment time, students' development is not very obvious, the representativeness is limited. Therefore this research needs to continue to penetrate, gradually formed comments and suggestions to realize the change of learning style.
