As one of the most dynamic cities in China, Shanghai had9,353,600fluidpopulations in2011, accounting for the40%citys total resident population, of whichmore than80%are migrant workers. These migrant workers are mostly from poorrural areas, cities and counties. They have little culture, a low quality of life, and a lowincome. This has been called “three low” situation, which directly affects theeducation of children of migrant workers. Although the government has put forwardthe relevant requirements, the system still faces some difficulties. We are concernedwith the learning habits, and ability of the migrant workers children. The author conducted a survey, individual interviews, and observedclassroom teaching of the migrant workers children in Yangsizhen Primary School. She found these children lacking in preschool education and don’t have good readingskills, which resulted reading obstacles in primary school. Although they areinterested in reading, their reading abilities and habits are worse than the children incity. These problems, including lack of reading interest and poor habit, parents’ weakconsciousness in study and without enough guidance on the method of reading, allmake it harder for them to adapt to the process of lifelong learning and work in thefuture. Nowadays the teachers have become aware of poor reading habits and havehelped develop their better reading skills. So according to the analysis of the readinghabit training, the author summarized the advantages and disadvantages of theeducational method in reading habit training. After much consideration, she summedup the method of reading habit training, including the correct choice of readingmaterial, the correct teaching aim, the effective guidance method of reading, so as toimprove the overall reading level. The teachers should give the migrant workerschildren chances to read and communicate with them. After conducting research for more than a year, results show that most ofchildren have corrected their prior poor reading skills. At the same time, they havelearned a lot from reading. Their parents have also changed their opinions oneducation. The research shows that the achievement of the migrant workers’ family has a positive effect on reading as well as on their children’s overall improved abilityto read.
