BRIS refers to four countries which are Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa. The four countries have great influence on regional or global economy and politics, and are all the important trade partners of China. They are rich in natural resources with good market prospects and complementary with China in trade. During recent years, the trade between China and BRIS increased quickly. It is good for China to reduce its trade dependence on developed countries to enlarge the export to BRIS, which is corresponded with China’s "export market diversification" strategy.Into the21st century, the economic and trade relations of China and the BRIS have developed rapidly. The bilateral trade has expanded, and the share of China’s export to BRIS in China’s total export has steadily rising. BRICS cooperation mechanism continues to develop, causing a wide range of domestic and foreign academic attention. In the area of trade, the China’s export volume, structure of export products and export potential to BRIS have become the focus of the domestic scholars. There are a large number of research literatures on the bilateral trade between China and BRIS, while less literature on the China’s overall exports to BRIS.First, we use the combination of theoretical analysis and empirical analysis methods, revealing the scale and structure of China’s exports to the BRIS by analyzing the change and development of China’s exports to BRIS. Secondly, we use a lot of charts and econometric models to analyze the determinants of China’s export to BRIS from the perspective of the total amount, mode of trade and industry classification. Finally, we use an extended gravity model to analyze the development potential of China’s export to BRIS. The model results show that China’s economy of scale, the difference of the level of per income between China and BRIS, and the openness of BRIS have a significant impact on China’s export to BRIS. The gravity model results show that China’s exports to Brazil and South Africa developed in good condition, and China’s export to Russia and India has a large potential for development.According to the theoretical and empirical analysis, we find that there is a large potential in China’s overall exports to the BRIS and a further optimization on the export patterns and product structure. Finally, we give some policy recommendations of expanding China’s export to BRIS in the context of economic globalization.
