After decades of development, India’s comprehensive national power increasesquickly and it will enter a rapid industrialization period. The rapid rise in economystimulates its domestic consumption in mineral resources. And its similar geographicposition and national conditions with China make it inevitable to occur in fiercecompetition in overseas resources and energy acquisition. Therefore, it has strategicsignificance to study India’s future demand trend of resources. This paper first introduces India’s domestic geological background and its mainresource distribution, followed by a detailed analysis of India’s economic developmentprocess, mode and future prospects. In the prospects, it is proposed that the grossdomestic production will pass twenty trillion dollars (1990GK$) and the grossdomestic product per capita reached13thousand dollars, with the population of1.5billion. And then on the basis of the trend of India’s economic development predictedabove, a detailed prediction on the future demand of India’s mineral resources is madeby virtue of the “S" shaped law on the demand of mineral resources proposed byMineral Resources Research Center of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences. Inthe year2030, the primary energy consumption of India will reach3.2billion tones oilequivalent, the consumption of crude steel will reach220million tones and theconsumption of copper will be3.69million tones. Finally, according to the predictionresults, the impact of the rise of India on the pattern of the world’s recourses isanalyzed and from a strategic point of view, the countermeasures and suggestions ofChina is put forward. India will require a great amount of mineral resources and willbecome the biggest resource consumption country in the world. And the shortage of themajor mineral resources will become more and more serious, which will make Indiamore dependent on the resources abroad. India has the same resource situation as China, and a rat race between the two of world’s largest resource-requiring countries will beinevitable.
