Analysis On Changes Of China’s Export Competitiveness And Technical Level

With the continuous economic development, China has become the world’s largest exporter. Various products with "Made in China" went to each corner of the world, which made more and more people started to pay attention to China’s export competitiveness and technical level. Therefore, this paper aims to determine the competitiveness and technical level of China’s exports compared with other countries through analyzing kinds of indicators.In this paper, we select Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index to measure the export competitiveness and an indicator called EXPY to capture the technical level associated with a country’s exports. According to the classification system of Lall (2000), we can calculate different kinds of products’RCA index and a whole country’s EXPY. After that, we can examine the changes of China’s export competitiveness and technical level from past to present, as well as compared with other countries. Obtained through the analysis, China’s export structure has been upgraded and had a leading position in the developing world, but compared with developed countries, the structure is extremely unbalanced. In addition, the improvement of China’s export technical level from the international industrial transfer has been stabilized, so new growth points need to be sought. We also use the1996-2010international panel data model to analyze the factors affecting a country’s export technical level, and further distinguish between these factors’influence degree on developed and developing countries, especially on China. The results showed that foreign trade dependence and degree of participation of the international division system are important factors to affect the technical level of China’s exports.
