Cultivated land is a very valuable resource, which is not only the source of humans’ food and clothing, but also the basis of our development. The sustainable utilization of cultivated land is the key to achieve a stable society and a sustainably developing economy. Hubei, one of the main grain producers in China, has to meet the need for regional food, and to guarantee the food supply all over the county as well. In2009, the cultivated land per capita was half of the national level and the level of urbanization was only45.2%. With the increase of population and the economic development, there is a reduce in the carrying capacity of cultivated land in Hubei province and also a tremendous pressure on protecting it. The relationship between human and land needs to be improved immediately. Therefore, it is of vital importance to do the research on the sustainable developments of Hubei’s cultivated land and economies.Based on the Gravity center Model and the mathematical model such as relative changing rate (elasticity coefficient), by adopting the county map and the data of statistical yearbook in Hubei province and the GIS method, the paper attempts to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics about Hubei’s cultivated land resources in terms of time and spatial evolution. Based on this analysis, with the spatial data of social and economic factors, the paper analyzes the coupling relationship between the spatial and temporal dynamic changes of Hubei’s cultivated land and the society and economies. In the quantitative research, the paper mainly compares and calculates the moving and changing trajectory and spatial distribution of the focuses of cultivated land and the economical factors, analyze the spatial relationship as well. The paper also finds the intrinsic link between cultivated land resources and the socio-economic factors and provides a theoretical basis for the safety evaluation of cultivated land resources in Hubei province. It includes five parts:Part one is introduction, includes the background of article and the significance of study, study process about the subject, and the content, the underlying dataPart two introduce Hubei province natural conditions,socio-economic conditions and cultivated land conditions.Part three is analyzing the cultivated land dynamic change for Hubei province. From the viewpoint of time, county cultivated land in Hubei province showed a decreasing trend in1999-2005and an increasing trend in2005-2009. But overall, the cultivated land resources took on a decreasing look:viewing from spatial variety, in the year1995-2009, it moved from west to east in Zhongxing City, Jingshan County and Tianmen City.Part four is analyzing the farmland dynamic change factors. the paper mainly compares and calculates the moving and changing trajectory and spatial distribution of the focuses of cultivated land and the economical factors, analyze the spatial relationship as well. The paper also finds the intrinsic link between cultivated land resources and the socio-economic factors and provides a theoretical basis for the safety evaluation of cultivated land resources in Hubei province.Part five sums upstudy comclusions and productions, and forward further studies. Cultivated land is negatively correlated to population:there was an overall reduction in cultivated land while a constant increase in population in the last15years. Cultivated land per capita is decreasing and the man-land contradiction is being highlighted. In the aspect of space, the focuses of cultivated land and population are both moving from northwest to southeast, showing a certain correlation. By quantitatively analyzing the relationship between cultivated land and rural labor with labor farming coefficient model, that correlation between county land resources and labor transfer. Through analyzing the correlation of the focuses and dynamic changes in spatial distribution among farmland, urbanization, GDP and the three industries, the paper finds that the spatial changes of the two is basically moving backwards, areas with a higher economic level lose cultivated land faster. Recently, with a convenient traffic, an increasing urban population and a rapidly developing economy, farmland in mountainous areas in western Hubei province is urbanized faster. However, in more developed areas, cultivated land is being protected and the urbanization of it is strictly controlled so that there is an increasing quantity of cultivated land. Therefore, there is a large correlation between the characteristics of cultivated land’s spatial and temporal distribution and socio-economic factors.
