Retail banking is a comprehensive and integrative financial service supplied for individuals, families, medium-sized and small enterprises, which focuses on customers, applies modern operation principles and based on high technology. It involves liabilities assets and intermediate business. Comparing with traditional banking business, retail banking has more profit space and less risk. With domestic economy increasing rapidly recent years, market potential of retail banking is becoming more and more obvious. Among the profit sources of commercial banks, retail banking is taking up a higher proportion and becoming more and more important. Retail banking has become an important commercial banking business. A great majority of domestic commercial banks have laid down development strategy of retail banking one after another. Retail banking has become an important development direction of the banking industry. As a significant channel and guarantee of enhancing commercial banks’core competitiveness and realizing sustainable development, it is imperative to strive to develop retail banking and improve retail banking profit.The research thinking of this paper is linking theory with practice. It is established in practical work experience. Based on systematic illustration of the range and characteristic of retail banking and analysis of domestic and overseas retail banking history and current situation, taking the Industrial Bank Ji’nan branch as an example, and combining with the actual characteristic and requirements of retail banking, this paper comprehensively dissect the current situation and problems of the Industrial Bank Ji’nan branch from the perspectives of savings business, financial management business, personal loan business, and customer resource development. In the paper, the Industrial Bank Ji’nan branch retail business is systemically analyzed about its advantages, weakness, market opportunities and external threats with the SWTO method, from seven aspects of customer resource management, differentiated services promotion, optimization of organizational structure, professional team building, strengthen of evaluation mechanism, building of the risk system and brand building, aiming at expanding its retail business. In addition, this paper puts up with suggestions from aspects of the innovation of financial products, loans, and electronic banking products, strengthening the supervision of lending operations, improving risk management systems, increasing the concept of culture and communication, regarding to the status and problems of the retail business of domestic commercial banks. It is expected that these achievements can realize their practical significance to the retail business of the Industrial Bank Ji’nan branch, and can be used for reference in other domestic commercial banks and financial institutions.
