Greenhouse effect which caused by too much carbon emissions during theprocess of industrialization has strengthened day by day and has led a series of seriousglobal warming problems. What’s more, this has given an alarm on countries whichdevoted to the rapid growth of economy, so it’s an urgent task to solve the problem onhow to reduce the rapid growth of carbon emissions on the condition of keepingsustainable growth of economy.Changsha-zhuzhou-xiangtan urban group as anoutstanding urban agglomeration in the central regions, which adhering to theconception of resource conservation and environment friendly society, it has greatsignificance on how to balance the economic growth and environment, and obtain therapid economic growth and at the same time low carbon emissions behind the keyperiod of economy transition. This paper utilize data from1999-2009of Changsha-zhuzhou-xiangtan urbangroup to analyze the relationship between carbon emissions and economic growth onthe basis of EKC environmental theory, and modeling EKC curve ofChangsha-zhuzhou-xiangtan urban group. We also choose LMDI(Logarithmic meanDivisia index)method to analyze the influences on carbon emissions from energyefficiency、energy structure and economic development, and reveal the reasons abouticreasing of per capita carbon emissions. At last, we give some suggestions accordingto the changing characteristics of factors.Through the analysis above, the main conclusions are following:firstly,Changsha-zhuzhou-xiangtan urban group of carbon emissions has followed the leftpart of the U-type.And it indicates that, with the further growth of economy, the carbonemissions might rise continually.Economic growth and carbon emissions has acointegrating relationship during the long term, and Granger Test shows that the twohas one-way granger causality, indicating that economic growth has a great effect oncarbon emissons.Secondly, the improvement of energy efficiency plays a leading rolein reducing the level of per capita carbon emissions in Changsha-zhuzhou-xiangtanurban agglomeration, energy structure do not play too much role in the inhibition ofper capita carbon emissions, and economic development has played a driving role.Andas time goes on,the gap between economic growth and energy efficiency hasexpanded, and the energy structure which is focused on coal has not changed. So, the suppressive factors of energy efficiency and energy structure cannot offset thepromoting factor of economic development on carbon emissions.
