An Empirical Study Of Environmental Performance Of Accommodations In The World Heritage Site

With the increasingly severe contradictory issues between environment and resources, and the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference held in2009, a new economic model "low-carbon economy" based on low pollution, low energy consumption, low emission has become a consensus in front of people. As a high consumption and emission place, hotel enterprises impact on the environment more and more obviously. Everyone knows that, the world natural heritage site, as a special type of tourist destinations, environmental quality is an important lifeline for it. Hotel enterprises of the cities in heritage tourist site are not only the important mediators of tourism activities to be implemented, but also the main responsibility of the regional environmental protection. Under the constraints of different environmental policies, the hotel enterprises will generate different values and different choice behaviors; the behaviors of the hotel companies will directly affect or even determine the environmental performance, thereby affecting the overall environmental quality of the regional tourism. Therefore, the researches on low-carbon behavior of hotel enterprises in heritage tourist site and seeking countermeasures and suggestions to improve the low-carbon behavior of the hotel enterprises are practical and significant.Therefore, this article takes hotels in Zhangjiajie City where the Wulingyuan--the world natural heritage locates as the research target, based on the possibility assumption that the low-carbon behavior is difference between difference hotels, and the achievement that all kinds of hotels and restaurants create low-carbon, environmentally and friendly hotel. Firstly we employed32index of low-carbon behavior measurement and investigated from six aspects (the hotel building and landscape design, energy management, water management, waste reduction, the communication of environmental awareness, environmental management and knowledge measure). Then we conducted a questionnaire survey of217various types of hotels in Zhangjiajie City and interviewed appropriately for obtained research data. Finally, we used the SPSS17.0statistical software for analysis and through the variance analysis, multiple testing analysis and other methods to test the concept of this study. Through analysis, the main conclusions of this study is that6project index of measuring environmental behavior of hotel companies in Zhangjiajie City all get low scores, which are lower than expected level, especially deficiency in environmental management knowledge, environmental awareness, communication, water resources management; high-star hotels do not have more higher score than the low-star hotels and social hotels in most of the environmental behavior index score; finally, on the basis of the results analysis, we have explored the tendency and the key performance factors of low-carbon behavior to seek the optimal way to encourage enterprises to improve their low-carbon behavior, for providing practical reference and theoretical draws to promote the sustainable development of heritage tourist site in the future.
