Since ancient times, China has been the largest producer of textiles and clothingsince ancient times. In recent years, Exports of textiles and garments is one of the mainforce of China’s foreign exchange earnings. However, by the rise of trade protectionismand the international community pay the attention of environmental issues and financialcrisis, green trade barriers to textiles and garments quickly became one of China’s newkind of non-tariff barriers.In order to deal with the green trade barriers better and promoting the continuedevelopment of China’s textile and garment industry, the paper first described the concept,characteristics, manifestations and development trends of green trade barriers in detail,then use large amounts of data, charts and examples to elaborate the current situation ofChina’s textile and closing and suffer from green trade barrier. Then the paper analysisthe external and internal reasons for China’s textile and garment frequently subjected tothe green trade barriers. Then this article describes four standards and regulations relatedto textile and garments of international trade. So that our enterprises better graspinternational standards, and avoid green trade barriers. Then the paper analyzes theeconomic impact and realistic impact of green trade barriers on China’s textile andgarment industry from two aspects.This article believe that green trade barriers on China’s textile and garment, willcause the export markets narrowing, reduce market share and rising export costs, declinein export competitiveness in short-term. One the other hand, the green trade barriers willstimulate the country’s textile and closing industry to improve technology, promote theestablishment of uniform standards of China’s textile and garment industry, and makechina’s textile and closing product better adapt to the international community needs,therefore, in the long term, green trade barriers on China’s textile and garment arefavorable.Finally, the paper recommend several policies from the enterprise level andgovernment level to respond to green trade barriers on China’s textile and garmentindustry. Only through the joint efforts of governments and enterprises our textile andgarment industry can across the green trade barriers successfully and continue to play an important role in China’s foreign trade.
