A port is an important infrastructure to support the economic development of countries and regions. It’s the link between production and consumption, a bond between home and abroad. It’s directly related to the rise and fall of the inland economy and urban construction process. Longkou is located in the northwest part of Yantai City, which belongs to Shandong Peninsula. It’s in the east of Yantai, near the south of Qingdao. With Dalian, Tianjin, Qinhuangdao to the north across the sea, it’s the bright pearl of Bohai Economic Belt. Understanding the competition between ports and the transformation of logistics function and formulating development programs for the transportation of bauxite at Longkou port, and speeding up the development of the transportation, will not only promote the overall development of other kinds of cargo, but also speed up the transformation of Longkou port into a100-million-ton port, to accelerate the economic development of the inland economy and contribute to the overall economic development of the country. This paper, from the aspects of development of modern logistics, the increasing sizes of the ships, the development of the inland economy and other ports, aims to analyze, in a comprehensive way, the external environment for the transportation of bauxite. Furthermore, by analyzing the overall operation of Longkou port and the containerization system as well as the tonnage, we present the internal environment of the transportation of bauxite at Longkou port. Based on a qualitative analysis, we have a prediction, via neural network and improved grey model, about the future tonnage of Longkou port and its transportation of bauxite. According to the above analyses, the paper draws a conclusion about the feasible aim for Longkou port’s transportation of bauxite, that is, by the end of the12th Five-Year plan, the port’s tonnage will break through100million tons, the transportation of bauxite going beyond20million. To fulfill the above targets, the paper proposes the following strategies. With the focus on relative interests, quality service and efficient logistics, we should try to prosper the city with the port, to improve the port with the help of the city, improve the status of the port, and develop modern logistics. That brings our paper to a conclusion.
