The Perception Of The Community Residents Toward Mega-Event

The Olympic Games and World Expo, the two world-class event was succ essfully held in China, the world focus on China, and it leads to a nationwide upsurge of holding festival activity. During these years, China’s FSE has enter ed a relatively mature stage, the scale of the Festival is becoming bigger and bigger, the subject of activities of the Festival has become increasingly diverse.As a fair wonder in the history of modern exposition,West Lake Internatio nal Expo in Hangzhou has a strong representative and personality.Based on the West Lake International Expo, the article examines the perception of the comm unity residents toward mega-event. Through508Hangzhou residents’surveys,an impact scale including26impact items with5factors, namely,social-psychologi cal impacts,society benefits,society costs,social life costs,and physical impacts,w as built to assessing the perception of residents. In addition, on the basis of lit erature research, the article also raised15independent variables that can affect the residents’perception, to determine how these factors affect the residents per ception.The study shows that the majority of respondents in Hangzhou,perceive d the impact of the West Lake EXPO positively,are their career,their attitude to ward more tourists to Hangzhou,and their satisfaction about government perfor mance in the organization of the West Lake International EXPO.The impact sca le established in the article will be helpful to examine some similar Mega-even t impacts,e specially some non-western,newly emerging event, and to observe loc al residents response to event development. At the end of the article, based on the results of empirical research, some corresponding countemeasures and sugg estions are raised in order to be able to make the West lake EXPO do better in future, making the West Lake EXPO of negative impacts minimized to obtai n the support of more residents in Hangzhou,harvest good Word of mouth of the visitors so that there will be a better and sustained tourist source to attend the West lake EXPO, meanwhile,this also can enhance the visibility and reputat ion of Hangzhou and promote the development of the tourism economy of the entire Hangzhou.
