New product research and development is important for the enterprise to acquire sustainable competitive advantage while new product research and development is very huge and complex, so developing a suitable new product research and development process is necessary. CO company is a typical American own company which have been7years since it was built in Shanghai, but its new product research and development process on wiring devices is not perfect. The main problem of its new product research and development process is as below:first problem is this process was over complex and caused some work had no efficiency and waiting time was increased, then the duration is too long. Second problem is based on current organization chart, project manager do not have enough authority and the information sharing is not smooth, then the process efficiency is low. Hence, current new product research and development process in CO company cannot satisfied the requirement of company development and continuous competitive excellent. The objective of this thesis is to build a new product research and development process which is suitable for CO company wiring devices. This new process is to improve the work efficiency, shorten the development duration and decrease the development cost.This thesis is firstly introduced the current P-DMEDI-S (Propose, Define, Measure, Design, Implement, Sustain) process, then based on the characteristic of electrical product and its requirement on new product research and development process, using cause and effect chart to find out the root cause for the problems of this process. Secondly, the thesis introduced the current organization chart of CO Company and its problem, and then based on the different projects, a new organization chart is given. Introduced concurrent engineering can optimize the process, decrease the design change and built a new process map. Thirdly, the thesis gave an example for the application of new research and development process. It is shown that the application of new process is shorten the project schedule, decreased the development cost and labor cost. Hence, the new process has higher efficiency. In the end, the thesis provided the lack of this thesis, that is, the optimized process is not suitable for all different industry and different culture, and the motivate mechanism is not shown in this thesis. Different product and different company culture require different product research and development process. The company need to find a more suitable process based on own company’s characters and whole environment, then the company can achieve competitive excellent.
