Status And Countermeasure Of Industrial Development On Camellia Oleifera In Jiangxi

After implementing the forest tenure system reform and deploying the "1155" project on the development of Camellia industry in the11th five-year plan, Camellia industry in Jiangxi has entered a new phase. Governments at all levels have developed a series of policies and measures to promote the development of Camellia industry. Fine Variety Breeding and planting technologies of Camellia become integrated. Industrialization modes of camellia are continuously improved. Enterprises focus on product innovation. Consequently, the development scale of Camellia Industry in Jiangxi has been expanded greatly, setting off a new upsurge to develop Camellia industry. However, there are still many problems. For example, the area of low-yield and low-efficiency stands are too large to improve the camellia oil quality; there remains some hidden problems on selection and cultivation of superior varieties and industrialization of cutting orchard such as few fine varieties, inferior quality of seeds, low yield, small scale and scattered distribution; the layout of camellia cultivation regions is not reasonable; the funds supporting the development are insufficient; the land transfer is difficult; the management and technological services are lagging, the degree of intensive cultivation is low in general; no market-access rules are established for the camellia enterprises whose layout is reasonable; although some technological breakthroughs on camellia processing have been achieved, the degree of integrated technologies and industrialization are still low. These issues are not conducive to develop camellia industry toward growth and prosperity.Based on site survey and summarization, this paper evaluates and diagnoses the current situation and tendency of the development of camellia industry in Jiangxi. Investigations and data collection on the popularization of superior varieties, intensive cultivation and camellia processing industry are carried out to analyze the problems impacting the development of camellia industry. Furthermore, this paper proposed strategic recommendations suitable for the leapfrog development of camellia industry with a substantial scale in Jiangxi. These include improving the polices and measures to create a good environment for the development of Camellia industry; accelerating the variety upgrading to promote the popularization of superior varieties; innovating the cultivation and management modes of camellia industrialization to facilitate the development of camellia industry with a substantial scale; improving the industrial chain and enhancing the integrated utilization of camellia to promote the development of camellia processing industry. As a result, three transformations of camellia industry in Jiangxi can be expected. They are converting variety degradation into superior variety as a top priority, shifting cultivation from extensive to intensive and changing the primary processing into modern and integrated utilization.
