A Relational Research On S&T Investment, Competitiveness And Enterprise Performance

In recent years, high and new technology industry in Zhejiang province hasdeveloped rapidly, and has become a key construction industry in Zhejiang province.The support dynamics which the government of Zhejiang province to high and newtechnology enterprise is also enlarged year by year, so the high and new technologyenterprise of Zhejiang province, especially in the area around Hangzhou Bay, has avery good development environment, enterprises have made great improvement andpromotion in the investment in science and technology, the core competitiveness andso on with the performance has got unprecedented growth.This paper puts307high and new technology enterprises as the research object,including201enterprises of the area around Hangzhou Bay and106enterprises ofinland area, and proceeds empirical analysis to reveal the enterprise’s currentsituation of the development of science and technology.Based on the theory of enterprise competence, the paper builds the index systemto evaluate high and new technology enterprise competitiveness, constructs a modelof enterprise investment in science and technology, enterprises competitiveness andperformance, and then proceeds empirical analysis. The paper explored theenterprises competitiveness as a bridge in connecting between input of science andtechnology in high and new technology enterprises and performance, lag andinteractive effects was introduced, and analyzes the impact by such multi-factorsituation on performance. And then based on the empirical analysis of high and newtechnology enterprise in the areas around Hangzhou Bay and inland areas, the papermade a comparison on the different contribution about investment in science andtechnology to enterprise competitiveness and performance between the areas aroundHangzhou Bay and inland areas, found the reasons and gave some suggestions.The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Investment in science and technology is significant positive correlated withperformance. Investment in science and technology not only has positive influence tothe enterprise current performance, but also has certain hysteresis effect. Besides,enterprises competitiveness has part mediating effect between science and technologyinput and performance.(2) The effect of science and technology input to performance is better when theinteractive role is considered, which returns to scale turns into increasing. (3) Compared with inland areas of new and high technology enterprise, scienceand technology input of the enterprises in the areas around Hangzhou Bay has muchmore contribution to performance.(4) Compared with the areas around Hangzhou Bay of new and high technologyenterprise, the number of R&D staff of the enterprises in inland areas has much morecontribution to enterprises competitiveness.(5) Compared with inland areas of new and high technology enterprise, undermulti-factor situation, science and technology input of the enterprises in the areasaround Hangzhou Bay play a better role on performance.
