Thin seam coal resources in China is very rich, but the geological conditions of thethin coal seams was complicated, due to the poor environment of mechanized miningwork and complex load, strength, stiffness, fatigue life of shearer are highly demanded, the destruction of shearer will cause a huge economic loss.A virtual rigid–flex coupled prototyping of a new type shearer cutting unit for thincoal seam from a company was established in the co-simulation platform based onPRO/E, MATLAB, ANSYS, ADAMS and NSOFT.The load text of shearer wassimulated through MATLAB, the physical models created by PRO/E, modal neutral fileof the key parts generated by ANSYS,and imported into ADAMS by interface softwareMECHANISM/Pro.The stress and strain condition of the key parts of the cutting unit wereobtained by dynamic simulation, and found that the local of shell and planetary carrierexist a larger dynamic stress, the optimized shell and planetary carrier stress are moreevenly distributed, significantly improved mechanical properties; fatigue life analysis ofthe shell of cutting unit, output shaft and planet carrier are launched afterwards based onNSOFT,the weak link prone to fatigue damage was found. The results of the analysisprovide a quantitative basis for the performance improvements and structuraloptimization, and the design cycle can be shortened.
