Numerical Control Technology (NC technology) has brought revolutionary changesto the manufacturing industry of all countries of the world since its coming out. Owing tothe flourishing development of manufacturing industry in China, we need plenty of talentsthat master the modern manufacturing technology; especially the front-line workersskilled in numerical control technology are greatly needed. And this makes it necessary forvocational colleges to cultivate more high-skilled talents. But due to the limited conditions,many colleges can only pay attention to teaching theoretical knowledge, but little topractice. The students from those colleges are lack of practical operation abilities.Therefore a new kind of teaching model with a feature of small investments and quickreturns i.e. numerical control machining simulation system is brought into being. Thenumerical control machining simulation is a newly emerging technology in the mechanicalmanufacturing. It is a kind of simulation software based on the virtual reality, and it canimitate the actual production process by computer. Being used in the NC teaching processin higher vocational colleges, the NC machining simulation system can not only reducethe school-running costs and improving the efficiency of running colleges, but alsoprovide more practice opportunities for the students and help them skillfully master theNC machine production and processing technology as well as foster the manual operationabilities and train the techniques and skills of operation practice of students, and thereforeimprove the NC teaching level.This paper firstly analyses the overall structure of the NC machining simulationsystem and afterwards presents the significance of this research by introducing theconcepts of manufacture technology and NC simulation technology. Based on the aim anddemand of developing colleges and universities NC simulation system, the author choosesDelphi to develop OpenGL NC simulation system for analysis and design. Compared withthe traditional Visual C++, Delphi is doing better on both decreasing the difficulty ofdevelopment and cost saving. Many systems with practical functions can be developedfast and the efficiency of program execution can be guaranteed by using the powerfulvisual components of Delphi. The modeling method of using drawing function of OpenGLis beneficial to the underlying development of simulation system. It is also helpful to thedesign of blank refining methods. Furthermore it can reduce the amount of background calculation and speed up the system operation and makes the real-time dynamicsimulation of manufacturing process come true. Meanwhile, during the process ofmachining simulation, the double buffer technique of OpenGL can accelerate the graphicdisplay and avoid the picture flickering and also make the manufacturing process morecontinuous.This NC simulation system has many functions mainly on the Geometric Modelingof Machine, NC Code Compile,3D Animation simulation and Collision Detection, etc.The system has good openness, extensibility and strong currency. It can enhance theteaching efficiency. In addition, the system has favorable practicality and3D graphicprocessing ability. It can test and verify the correctness of the program. The system has anoutstanding effect on the improvement of NC teaching and the promotion of students’comprehensive abilities.
