With the continuous improvement of living standards and environmental awareness, environmental quality is even more important for residents. Therefore, the establishment of a practical, convenient environmental monitoring system in order to meet the comprehensive needs is a matter of concern nowadays.The main contents of environmental monitoring include temperature, humidity, ultraviolet radiation, noise, SO2, NO2, etc. The current construction shortage of environmental monitoring network is the background for this paper, we design an environmental monitoring system using wireless sensor network technology. About the design of remote monitoring terminal, taking into account convenient Internet condition in the monitoring area, coordinator node can transmit data with the remote control center through GPRS to access the Internet. Meanwhile netusers can also access the environmental monitoring data on the remote control center by means of the browser. System can realize two-way communication with coordinator node through GPRS. It not only can receive all kinds of environmental data from coordinator node, and also can provide the user with a concise and beautiful visual interface. The system enables users to understand the running status of the distant coordinator node timely. The combination of GPRS and ARM has greatly enhanced the automated management of system, and helps to improve the real-time performance of data transmission and the stability of system, and it has significantly reduced the funding for the construction and operation of the system.The designed system consists of ZigBee wireless sensor network, local data convergence center, remote control center. On the design of system, software system of control center is not readily available, it can only be independently developed. The benefit of the self-developed software system is that a series of operations such as post-optimization, upgrading after the self-development are very convenient. The main function of remote control center is to receive the environmental monitoring data from the network and parse and then store it in the SQL Server2008database in time, finally data is taken from the database and processed according to the use of user. Web server is mainly to provide human-computer interactive interface of environmental monitoring system for netusers. Users can perform operations such as viewing the environmental data, downloading historical data, analyzing dynamically, drawing the data curve of each node, drawing diagrams and so on, all of these operations are very helpful for the broad masses of users to view and analyze environmental changes.
