Project management of construction engineering is a hot research topic and focal point in the fields of managerial economics and construction economics. Project management includes schedule control, quality control and cost control, and anyone of the three is indispensable. Schedule control is directly related to the construction period whether can finish it on time or not, at the same time it is also the precondition of quality control and cost control, which plays an important role in project management. In China, the development of road construction management is becoming more and more mature and rapid, so the research on road engineering schedule control is of great significance. At present, Gantt chart method and network planning technology are used for schedule controlling. There are many studies on network planning technique which has characteristics of in-depth investigation, detailed preparation, clear logic and clear distinction of primary and secondary. At the same time it can also use computer program to calculate the related issues, and its application range is very wide. But it is not applicable in the each stage of road construction schedule controlling:to the road engineering whose sub-projects process is complex and the relationship between sub-projects is simple, if network planning technique is used in the whole process, it will result in the waste of time, resources and cost, and also will deviate from the purpose of project management. This paper proposes Network-Gantt planning method to solve problems of road engineering which has such characteristics. Network planning technology and Gantt planning method are applied to control schedule in various stages of road construction, so that such kind of road engineering schedule control theories improved and it provides another alternative method for practicing. I took W road engineering as an example to illustrate the concrete operation steps and validate the feasibility of the method. In this paper, the main results are as follows:(1)Analyzed the characteristics of road engineering, and found that the main engineering of it is main road engineering. And it also includes ancillary engineering, drainage engineering, lighting engineering, etc., and the relationship between them is relatively simple. But each sub-engineering process is complex, and requires careful investigation and analysis.(2)Analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of network planning and Gantt planning method, and put forward Network-Gantt planning method for road engineering with its characteristics, which can guarantee a careful analysis of the specific project, but also to ensure the rational use of resources and conservation..(3)Set up Network-Gantt planning method. Through using network planning technique to analyze and plan every project stage, made key routes and time limits of the project clear; When making overall plans, arranged each sub-project plan to the overall plan chart with Gantt planning method to clarify the overall goals of the plan, and then adjusted the schedule control accordingly; Adjusted the corresponding sub projects to meet the schedule goal after ascertained which sub-project should be duration-compressed. When there are multiple solutions can be chose, we should choose the one whose compression rate is low to achieve the cost target.(4)At last, took W road engineering as an example, applied Network-Gantt planning method to road engineering. Illustrated the concrete operation steps and validate the feasibility of this method. The results showed that the method was feasible and it could control the schedule and costs according to the actual situation of the road engineering.
