With the development of our economy and society, the users of distribution grid requirehigher power quality and the reliability of power supply. Distribution grid is the most directmanifestation of power quality and power supply service in power system, and feederautomation system (FAS) is the core content of distribution automation technology. Soconstructing a good feeder automation system is of great significance. With the developmentof distribution grid, its structure is more and more complex. The traditional feeder automationsystem has been unable to meet the future performance requirements. Therefore it is urgent todesign a feeder automation system with high intelligent degree and high safety performance.Based on the research of feeder automation system and GPRS, this paper proposes a setof feeder automation system based on GPRS private network, and the hierarchicalmanagement structure of system is designed: the main layer, sub stations and terminal layer. And aiming at the shortcomings of fault protection function of feeder automation system, thecollaborative fault protection mechanism is studied. The realization of feeder automationsystem depends on feeder terminal unit (FTU). Therefore, this paper designs the hardware andsoftware of FTU according to the requirements of the feeder automation system function, focusing on the main control module, power detection module and the terminal GPRS module. And the implementation of the management center software is briefly introduced. Finally, combining with the actual project of cooperative enterprise, this paper builds adistribution feeder automation system based on GPRS private network of CMCC, and realizesthe real-time monitoring of the distribution circuit under normal running state and thecollaborative fault protection under fault state through the actual test.
