| Traditional planning method mainly focuses on urban development. Specifically, a city’s spatial layout is greatly influenced by the perspective that it should promote the development of secondary industry and tertiary industry, while there is a lack focus on the development of primary industry. However, if rural planning applied the traditional planning method without appropriate consideration of the impact of agriculture on rural spatial layout, it would not be beneficial to rural development. In fact, current research on rural planning should not only focus on copying theories and practices from western countries. Instead, it should be based on the understanding of the true nature of rural development-analyzing different types of agricultural production, correspondingly figuring out ways of farmers’ living, then accordingly exploring possible spatial layouts for rural areas. This paper carries out the research through the case study of Yidu in Hubei province. It can be divided into three parts:Firstly, the paper points out the law of rural development in the city of Yidu and farmers’way of living-conducting research in villages where the main types of agricultural production belong to, in order to explore details of agricultural activities on the current condition of agrotechnology, and to analyze different ways of famers’living on the basis of different agricultural activities; at the same time, reviewing the agricultural history of Yidu, to find out the internal relation between the type of agricultural production and the way of famers’ living; proposing visions of future agriculture industry in Yidu, according to the law of rural development.Secondly, it discusses how agricultural production and ways of farmers’living influence the spatial layout of rural areas in Yidu-analyzing changes of spatial layout with the process of agricultural development:in the past, how agricultural production and ways of farmers’living helped to form the spatial pattern of rural areas; how the spatial pattern has changed following agricultural development in the modern times; what kinds of influence future agricultural development will have on the spatial pattern of rural areas in Yidu.At last, it explores possible spatial layouts in the future for rural areas in Yidu, according to the law of rural development-figuring out appropriate spatial layouts which will follow the law of rural development in those areas, on the basis of the internal relation between agricultural production, ways of farmers’living and spatial pattern of rural areas; then proposing visions of farmers’new life, which will satisfy the needs of farmers. |
