| Traditional scheduling methods, such as Gantt chart, CPM/PERT method, have manylimitations in the linear construction projects. Gantt chart can’t show the logical relationshipbetween activities and provide much information about the project. CPM/PERT may be losetheir meaning because it’s confused and is not conducive to understand and communicationbetween managers, so as to make the plan become a mere formality. When changes appeared,network diagram is not easy to update and doesn’t suit construction after updating. Soschedule for linear construction projects is proposed, namely Linear Scheduling Method,hereinafter referred to as the LSM Method. Through comparative study between LSM methodand CPM/PERT method, find more accord with the characteristics of linear constructionprojects. The paper is to solve problems of the current schedule plan, such as destroy thecontinuity of construction, not easy to update and understand.This paper studies linear construction projects. It has many characteristics, for example,continuity, parallelism and proportionality. Plan needs to reflect time and place information atthe same time. Gantt chart, CPM/PERT method only can reflect the time information, whichis the biggest difference between LSM method and traditional schedule methods. Based aseries of comparison on LSM method and CPM/PERT method, for example, in theestablishment method, visual and easy to understand, update and resource optimization,concluded the limitations in CPM/PERT method and the advantage of the LSM method whenapplied in the linear construction project, so as to break the dominance of CPM/PERT methodin linear engineering.Compared with the previous research on LSM method, innovation lies in:First, put forward the front line of the LSM method. It can clearly show the progress ofconstruction on the space, CPM/PERT method only show in time. LSM method is the morespecific and image than CPM/PERT method.Second, it uses special linear programming software LINGO to solve resourcesoptimization model. The method is easier than the genetic algorithm. It conforms to thecharacteristics of the LSM method’s intuitive.The research results show that the LSM method is more applicable than the CPM/PERTin linear construction method.Firstly, LSM method’s the biggest advantage than CPM/PERT method is intuitive andeasy to understand. It accurately describes the type of activity, activity time and place, doesnot destroy the continuity of construction, easy to communication and understanding betweenthe managers. CPM/PERT method cannot reach.Secondly, updating the LSM method is easier than the CPM/PERT method and not so tedious like CPM/PERT method. LSM method can be better applied to construction practice,and avoid the plan become a mere formality.Finally, resources optimization of the LSM method can be solved by software, which iseasy to master. |
