| The stone mastic asphalt (SMA) has very good flexible performance, high-temperaturestability and very good ability to resist permanent deformation. The engineering practice ofSMA used on the long-span steel bridge deck pavement in the United States, Japan and someEuropean countries shows that the SMA can be used on the upper structure of steel bridgedeck pavement. Because the research of steel bridge deck pavement technology started late inChina, coupled with China’s geographical environment, climate conditions and traffic load;the bridge surface pavement structure on many long-span steel bridge in our country appeareddifferent diseases very quickly. Through the summary of the analysis about the diseases andcauses of diseases happened on the steel bridge deck asphalt mixture surfacing layer.Combining with the mechanical characteristics of the steel bridge deck pavement; aconclusion was putted forward in this paper that the asphalt mixture of steel bridge deckpavement should have good resistance to tensile stress ability, resistance to verticaldeformation ability and good shear resistance.In order to improve the performance of SMAeffectively, so that the SMA can meet the requirements of steel deck surfacing on theproperties of pavement material, the rubber powder made from scrap tires thin40mesh willbe mixed with asphalt mixture based on the SMA-13in this paper.In this paper, the volume design method is adopted to improve the mineral aggregategradation design based on the structure characteristics of the SMA. The rubber was added tothe asphalt mixture to take the place of the particle size of fine aggregate as a special kind ofaggregate in the rubber powder asphalt mixture gradation design. The laboratory test showedus that the dosage of2%powdered rubber SMA’s low temperature crack resistance, hightemperature stability, shearing resistance were obviously improved, at the same time has goodresistance to water damage ability; besides that, the rubber powder asphalt’s resistance toimpact damage has significantly improved than ordinary SMA. A conclusion was drawn inthis paper that the rubber powder SMA is more suitable for long-span steel bridge deckpavement than ordinary SMA. |
