With the development of the shipbuilding industry, controllable pitch propeller systems are used more widely. Controlable pitch propeller devices have covered a range of warships, merchant and civilian vessels today. For ships equipped with controllable pitch propeller, the controllable pitch propeller device’s performance has a direct impact on the ship’s maneuverability and flexibility, and affects the safety of navigation and vitality. The hydraulic system is an important part of the ship controllable pitch propeller systems, which used for adjusting the pitch of the propeller, thus make the propeller better compatible with the main engine. Hydraulic system operating conditions is directly related to the safe navigation of the ship and crew safety. Therefore the study of hydraulic system is of great significance.This paper focuses on controllable pitch propeller and its hydraulic system, and makes use of computer simulation and automatic control technology to study the dynamic process, forecasting performance of the system and provide guidance for design of controllable pitch propeller device to enhance the safe and economical operation of controllable pitch propeller. Based on parametric structure design, here applied MSC.ADAMS and LMS Imagine. Lab AMESim for mechanical and hydraulic Co-simulation, and analyzed the mechanical and hydraulic characteristics of controllable pitch propeller. The main contents are as follows:1) Give an overview of the development status of controllable pitch propeller device, and made a brief introduction of both domestic and foreign major controllable pitch propeller design and production organizations, as well as major controllable pitch propeller type, including its mechanical structure and hydraulic system;2) With a controllable pitch propeller device as design prototype, this paper made a use of parametric method to create three-dimensional structural model of controllable pitch propeller, and the finite element software to check its strength, then analyzed the force conditions of each components of controllable pitch propeller;3) Designed the hydraulic system schematic depending on the system requirements, and calculated the main parameters of the system;4) Build a model of the hydraulic system by use of AMESim, and made a brief analysis of the structural parameters’influence on system performance;5) Multibody dynamics software ADAMS was used to establish the mechanical model of the controllable pitch propeller based on structure design model. Here combined mechanical and hydraulic models by use of ADAMS and AMESim interface block for co-simulation.
