Research On The Domestic Branch Transportation Operation Mode Of Yangtze River Container

In recent years, China has made great adjustment on the industrial structure of the national economy, and the domestic customers have put forward high requirements for the transportation quality, service, cost and time. Under such circumstance, the optimum volume of the container increases. The superiority of Yangtze River container transportation becomes more and more obvious. In addition, the Twelfth Five-year Plan greatly encourages the development of the golden waterway of Yangtze River. In the post-crisis era, Yangtze River Economic Zone is one of the most energetic economic regions in our country. With the great domestic market potential, an increasing number of container cargos take transit shipment through Yangtze River. Therefore, the domestic branch transportation of Yangtze River container presents full of vigor.However, at the same time of the rapid development of the domestic branch transportation of Yangtze River container, the rapid change of the branch container wharf construction and the continuous increasing of the cargo handling capacity, the domestic branch transportation enterprises of the Yangtze River container have not got high operation benefit, and even some of them have not got any profit or just got meager profit. Consequently, aiming at the existing problems of the domestic branch transportation and operation, it summarizes several modes for the container transportation enterprises, and evaluating it, with the purpose of improving the operation efficiency of the whole domestic branch of the Yangtze River container.At present, a great majority of enterprises have participated in the domestic branch transportation of Yangtze River container. So many operators with different economic types, operation scales and management levels swarm into such transportation market. Besides, some state-owned large-scale shipping enterprises take part in it, such as Cosco Group and China Shipping. Some forwarders also take part in chartering and operating the domestic branch. Moreover, some port enterprises, local shipping enterprises and private enterprises take initiative to develop the domestic branch transportation of the Yangtze River container. Furthermore, an increasing number of individuals and private ship-owners have gained the qualification of running the domestic branch through different means. Their service quality differs from each other, and the service level is relatively lower.Through field research and on-line consulting, this paper collects the data and materials about the domestic branch transportation and operation of the Yangtze River container; presents the current operation status of the related enterprises with different types; analyzes the status according to the upper, middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River; summarizes the existing problems. Next, it makes analysis on the influence of the following four aspects on the domestic branch transportation and operation of Yangtze River container:the economy of Yangtze River basin, relevant policies and regulations, basic conditions of the Yangtze River transportation (incl. basic conditions of the channel and the container wharf), and the domestic branch transportation market of Yangtze River container. Then, on the basis of the enterprise operation theory, it summarizes the following three models of the domestic branch transportation and operation, and makes analysis on their strength and weakness: business model of main line-branch line, operation model of common carriers, and logistics alliance model. Moreover, by means of the principal component analysis, it puts forward an evaluation model and makes evaluation on the domestic branch transportation mode of Yangtze River container. Subsequently, it carries out empirical research through SPSS (Statistic Package for Social Science) and MATLAB. Finally, it puts forward suggestions, conclusions and prospect on the domestic branch transportation and operation.
