As an important performance of automobile, handling stability, not only does it affectpeople’s driving experience, and is directly related to driving safety. Suspension is one of themost important component parts of automobile, its structure determines its performance, andwill further affect vehicle handling stability. By modifying the structure of Macphersonsuspension, we get a modified suspension, which known as Hiper Strut suspension and it isgood for improving vehicle handling stability.In this paper, some researches on Hiper Strut suspension have been done, such as itsstructure and kinematics performance and its influence on handling stability. Main researchcontents are as follows. Firstly, general situation of research on suspension kinematicsperformance, suspension kinematics optimization and handling stability has been introduced.Then, the influence of suspension kinematics performance on vehicle handling stability hasbeen introduced. On this basis, the kinematics performance analysis of Hiper Strut frontsuspension has been done based on ADAMS/Car and the kinematics performance has beenoptimized in order to improve vehicle handling stability. After that, a SUV model used forsimulation tests has been assembled with Hiper Strut front suspension subsystem, doublewishbone rear suspension subsystem, body subsystem, tire subsystem, steering subsystem andengine subsystem. Finally, some handling stability simulation tests for this SUV model havebeen done according to GB/T6323.2-1994, and its performance of handling stability has beenevaluated according to QC/T480-1999.Simulation results show that the kinematics performance of the optimized Hiper Strutsuspension has been improved and the unique structure design of Hiper Strut suspension canensure the vehicle has a good handling stability.Researches on Hiper Strut suspension in this paper are good for understanding itsstructure and performance. It also provides some references for further study and extensiveapplication of this modified suspension.
