With the rapid growth of economic, railway construction in China is believed made great progress. Since the construction cycle which can be easily influenced by irresistible factors and accidents is long, it’s essential for us to identify the risks that accompany the whole design and construction process. In order to establish a general risk rule for various construction units, risks must be graded firstly. However, the emerging research of risk classification criteria of engineering project is limited to the project itself, and the research of risk classification of railway construction project which contains roadbed、bridge and tunnel is still in the blank stage. This study aims to fill this gap.In this thesis, the research status and common methods of engineering project at home and abroad is summarized. By referring to the relevant research and utilizing risk matrix method、qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, the risk classification criteria of railway construction project is put forward, taking into account the characteristics of railway construction project. Proposals considering the classification of risk occurrence probability、risk loss and risk is proposed after a contrastive analysis.According to the results of risk classification of railway construction project, acceptable risk criterion is raised qualitatively, and an analysis is conducted qualitatively from the aspects of personal risk、social risk、economical risk and environmental risk.Finally, the application of the method is showed by a project case.
