Chinese language, the high enrichment and crystallization of the Chineseculture, deeply reflects way of thinking and life of Chinese people. Therefore,teaching Chinese as a foreign language is not only simply language teaching,but also language promotion practice with culture spreading. Culture teachingintegrated into Chinese language teaching helps students master Chinese moreeffective, so as to achieve the harmony between culture education andlanguage education. This paper gives the basic principles and methods ofteaching Chinese as a foreign language through collecting and organizingdomestic research progress and the current situation of teaching Chinese as aforeign language, with aims of existence of one-sided tendency of culturalteaching and language teaching, and analyzing the difference and theirrespective advantages of cultural teaching and language teaching. At the sametime, a teaching design is made about China’s four traditional festivals whichsolves the problem of how to coordinate the relationship and achieve thebalance between culture education and language education, so as to achievethe harmony between application and purpose of teaching Chinese as aforeign language. So that it provides a more realistic and feasible way for the smooth promotion of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
