Chinese character teaching is an important part of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Especially teaching the similar Chinese characters is the bottleneck of it. The similar Chinese characters refer to those characters which are similar in form. The similar Chinese character is one of the main reasons that people make mistakes when writing and reading.Whatever foreigner or Chinese people both think that the similar Chinese character become the obstacles of Chinese study. Now there is a lot of researching of the similar Chinese characters, which analyze the settling standards, characteristic, classification of the similar Chinese characters, but don’t analyze how to teach the methods of discriminating of it. This paper concludes the characteristic and classification and the reasons of causing errors of the similar Chinese character, and try to discover a much more effective the teaching strategies of the similar Chinese characters.This article included four parts:The first part introduces the purpose and meaning of the research and summaries the research achievements about the similar Chinese characters in recent years.The second part mainly describes the reasons of the formation of the similar Chinese characters and the characteristic and classification of it. It existed since the Chinese characters originated. The development of the characters’form and the grapheme simplified caused a lot of the similar Chinese characters. The similar Chinese characters divided into two parts:the similar single characters and the similar integrated characters. The strokes are the key of the similar single characters as well as the similar integrated characters should put side components as core. The content of the strokes includes the factors of the amount, shape, relationship and position. The components consist of the feature of the Chinese character component, component position and count.The third part chiefly discusses the reasons which emerge when the similar Chinese characters are writing. It is the one of the most important reasons of the Chinese character similarity in Chinese characters writing errors in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The forth part mainly put forward several teaching methods about the difficult of the similar Chinese characters discrimination. The similar Chinese characters consist of the similar single characters and similar integrated characters. According to different types of the similar Chinese character, and put forward different teaching methods. To the similar single characters can used the methods of distinguishing feature stressing, the method of the evolution of the character shaped, the method of the associating, the ballads memory method and the consolidation method and so on. The similar integrated characters make use of the Chinese characters’meaning analysis method, the storytelling method and the comprehensive analysis method and so on.
