After the Opium war in1840, Chinese Anti-smoking laws actually become mereformality. Legalization of opium trade makes opium smoking a desperate disaster andspread quickly, and it also becomes one of the most serious social problems in modernChina. China Northwest in late Qing Dynasty gradually started plant opium and enlargethe scale. Therefore, northwest becomes one of the most important opium productionareas. Meanwhile, the local government made the corresponding strategies according toQing government’s forbidden opium and prohibition. But it is not completely endedwhen the Qing Dynasty fell.This paper is divided into three parts. Firstly, it describes when the opium wasspread to northwest; the quick spread, planting and smoking and route is also discussed.Secondly, it is about the local government’s anti-smoking strategies and their effectduring Qing government’s forbidden opium and prohibition. The last part refers to theopium influence to the northwest.
