Among the languages from various human nationalities, color words are one kind of active words,which are also an important part of vocabulary in the language, the Chinese are no exception. Chineseidioms are the essence of Chinese culture and closely associated with the national culture. The idioms aremade colorful and interesting when color words become part of them. The paper s selected the diomscontaining basic color words-black, white, red, yellow, blue, green, blue, purple, gray for summarized,comparative study.The paper is divided into four parts:The first part is the introduction, it is focus on the definition of study object, literature reviews on colorwords and idioms as well as research ideas and significance on those idioms that containing basic colorwords. The second part contains the analysis of idioms which including basic color words from a variety ofperspectives. In order to propose a comprehensive understanding of the structure, ideographiccharacteristics and culture connotation of idioms containing basic color words, those idioms are statisticallysummarized, compared as well as inspected and sorted through lexicology, color science, culture,linguistics. The third part is the external teaching of Chinese word idioms containing basic colors, selectingBasic Color Terms idiom with higher frequency such as white, yellow as the objects, through comparativestudy we get Sino-British cultural differences behind color words, also teaching strategies andrecommendations are proposed combined with the teaching examples. The fourth part is the conclusion, bysumming up some features of the idioms containing basic color words in Chinese, it will help us in theimplementation of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. From the paper we can see that: Firstly, the basic color words in the idioms is not balanced. Thenumber of idioms which contain basic color words is different, some times there are numerous, others arefew. Such as idoms containing "white" has105, idoms containing “blue”only has2. Secondly, From thechromatics angle analysis, two basic color words in idioms by monochromatic harmonic, similar toreconcile, contrast and harmony to achieve harmony and unity.Thirdly, The basic color words’ rich culturalconnotations permeate in Idioms, Only understand the basic cultural connotation of color words we cantruly understand the meaning of the idiom.Lastly, the idioms with basic color words contain rich culturalconnotation and beauty of color, we should pay attention to the students’ cultural background and thenegative transfer effect of mother tougue in the process of implementation of teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage,we should adopt different teaching methods, and let students understand the Chinese basic colorwords in idioms contain rich beauty, and thento understand the Chinese culture.
