Idiom is the main part of vocabulary.Chinese idioms bear the weight of Chinese culture for five thousand years.Idioms with color words can be described as a mirror that depicts a splendid culture by using color.This paper follows the standpoints held by the majority of scholars who work on the researches of Chinese and English and is based on a comparative perspective.It makes a comparative analysis of Chinese and English idioms and explores the teaching strategies of learning Chinese as a foreign language.This paper gathers a lot of idioms from Oxford Idioms dictionary,Chinese Idiom Dictionary and Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary,including idioms,proverbs,two-part allegorical sayings and phrases.It hopes to help to teach color idioms in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,including the research object,scope and significance,research status of idioms and colors,research methods and the source corpus.The second part is the definition of Chinese and English idioms and structural analysis.The classifications of Chinese idioms are different.Combined with the views of experts and scholars,the paper establishes the research object,including idioms,proverbs,two-part allegorical sayings and phrases.And it uses the grammar theory to study and analyze the structure of Chinese and English idioms with color words.The third part establishes idioms as the object of analysis that include white,black,red,yellow,blue and green.It lists and explains six groups of Chinese and English idioms.And it discusses the semantic and cultural of the color words,which are in idioms in detail.The fourth part puts forward some comprehensive suggestions on the teaching strategies of Chinese color idioms from the aspects of textbook compilation,the teachers and teaching methods.The conclusion part is a summary of the contents of this paper.It is emphasizedthat this paper is a comparative analysis of color idioms between Chinese and English and exploration of teaching strategies.It indicates the existence of many deficiencies in this paper objectively,and need to be improved.
