This is a research report on the translation of the first chapter of Elaine Barbieri’shistorical romance Amber Treasure. As one of the romantic novelists, she has writtenthirty-three historical novels that have been published. Twenty-six of them have hit majorbestseller lists across her country. With over seven million books in print, her novels arepublished worldwide.Under the guidance of domestication and foreignization, the thesis, throughtranslation practice, aims to explain that not only one strategy is adopted in translation, butdynamic choice of domestication and foreignization. It not only summaries translationskills and issues in translation process, but also provides solutions.The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One mainly introduces the original textand background information of its writer. Chapter Two elaborates on translating processincluding preparing, translating and proofreading. Chapter Three firstly introducesdefinitions of domestication and foreignization as well as their disputes. Then, combinedwith the text, it discusses dynamic choice of domestication and foreignization in translation.In the last part of the chapter, it sums up other translation methods adopted such asconversion of parts of speech, amplification and omission and division and combination.Chapter Four puts forward difficulties in translation and it provides solutions. Chapter Fiveis a conclusion, which is a summary of this thesis. It not only points out shortcomings andenlightenments, but also brings some unsolved issues up.
