Thematic Based Approach originated from North America, and it is now a relatively popular Chinese-teaching approach in Europe, America and Japan. Thematic Based Approach proposes that the purpose of language learning is not noly to master the language knowledge, as long as we can use language to express our meaning, the mistakes in language forms can be possibly omitted. It emphasizes the authenticity of language use, creates the language learning environment of using language to do authentic communication for language learners, pays attention to the learners taking part in the whole teaching process, cultivates autonomous learning ability of learners, reflects learner-centered teaching thought. Above that, we can defined that the Thematic Based Approach in accordance with the short-term Chinese class features as "short term" and "reinforcment".In Vietnam, more and more students tend to learn Chinese in Foreign center, actually the original teaching methods there don’t meet the students’ needs of Chines learning, The research purpose of this paper is to explain the connotation of Thematic Based Approach, use Thematic Based Approach in short-term Chinese training class in Vietnam from practice, and to perfect this teaching approach thesis according to the feedback of teachers and students, in this way to make its localization, and to supply a new and effective teaching approach to the teacher and student in short-term Chinese class.This paper contents five chapters, the content structure is as follow,Chapter one is the introduction, to put forward research background, literature review, research approach and significance.Chapter two is about the Thematic Based Approach. The paper starts from its concept, to analyse the core bases (5C standards), make comparison of Thematic Based Approach, Task Based Approach, and Communicative Approach, then make conclusion that Thematic Based Approach combined the superiority of the other tow approaches. To the short-term Chinese teaching, the paper makes analyses of its features, then puts forward the implementation steps of Chinese teaching.Chapter three is mainly to introduce the features and the exist problems of short-term Chinese training class in Haifang Foreign Center. In this way to prove the Thematic Based Approach is suitable for this short-term Chinese teaching model.Chapter four is to take the students in short-term Chinese training class of Haifang Foreign Center, to demonstrate the experiment process of Thematic Based Approach and make analyses of teaching effect..Chapter five is to analyse the questionnaire. The paper puts forward suggestions to the application of Thematic Based Approach in Vietnam, and proposes opinions on its localization in Vietnam.
