After becoming the permanent host of the China-ASEAN EXPO, Nanning holds more and more foreign affairs activities, which drastically promotes the development of Guangxi socially and economically, while at the same time pushes Guangxi to improve its foreign publicity from all aspects. Among the various aspects of foreign publicity, the history of foreign trade has a place of its own, thus, the translation of History of Foreign Trade of Guangxi becomes necessary.This project only translates a small part of History of Foreign Trade of Guangxi, The Gross Value of the Exports. Before translating the text, it is identified as the informative text according to Peter Newmark’s Text-category Theory. In addition, the purpose of translation of the text is foreign publicity, which means the translation should be well understood by the English speakers according to the "Skopos Theory". Thus, the primacy of the translation is that it must be faithful to the source text, and meanwhile, it should take the acceptability of the readers into consideration. On the basis of the translation of the whole source text, this report highlights the analysis of certain important contents, such as (1) the translation of the proper nouns;(2) the translation of the political terminologies or policies that feature Chinese characteristics as well as (3) the translation of sentences, so that some translation strategies and techniques on the translation of local chronicles featuring economics and trade can be concluded. |
