Fiction is the most popular literary form for people, thus fiction translation is endowedwith the most extensive meaning. If Tomorrow Comes is the master work of Sidney Sheldon,which has been translated into various languages and published in many countries. Thistranslation report takes selected parts of this fiction as translation material, and emphasizes ondiscussion of its significant characteristics and their translation methods. And this translationreport is designed for solving following problems: How could we recreate the characteristicsof original in translation? Can thoughts of comparison between English and Chinese provideguidance for translation?If the translator wants to have a better translation, then the first and foremost point is acomprehensive understanding of the original, of which the characteristics shall be noticed andexpressed in the translation possibly. In the mean time, the differences between English andChinese and even cultures shall be noticed as well, and the translator shall try to avoidmisunderstandings or difficulties due to these differences. If the thoughts of comparisonbetween English and Chinese can be fully comprehended through translation practice, thenthe translation will be sufficient enough to satisfy the artistical demands of the readers.This translation report can be divided into four parts besides the original in English andthe translation in Chinese. The first part is an introduction of the translation task, whichmainly includes the source of the task, an introduction of the author as well as his fiction. Thesecond part is the translation process that elaborates the whole translation process in threestages, which are before translation, in the middle of translation and after translation. Thethird part is the case analysis, which analyzes the characteristics of this fiction and thecorresponding translation methods in details. The fourth part is the conclusion, which includes experiences in translation and cognition on the contrastive translation between English andChinese.
