This is a translation report based on Chapters one to two of Another Day Gone, written by Eliza Graham,a new generation of British writer. The story begins with Sarah, the heroine, who returns to her hometown in Oxfordshire after the London bombings in 2005.Her sister Polly's return after more than 10 years' leaving revealed the hidden painful history among three generations. They two must learn to face the past and to face each other. The novel exposes the lasting effects of violence on human's spirits,as well as the restorative power of love and loyalty. With beautiful language, twists and turns of plot, strong suspense, rigorous logic and a combination of history and humanistic spirit, the novel is worth reading for Chinese readers. The translation practice is based on the perspective of comparison and analysis between English and Chinese.Different thinking modes between China and the West lead to differences in linguistic expressions, which are not only reflected in the micro level of language, but also involve in the macro level of language. In the whole translation practice, the differences between English and Chinese are analyzed from the perspectives of words, sentences, discourse, narration and culture,in an attempt to find the proper way of translation.
