The Selection Of Translation Strategy On Political Material

This report is based on the translation of political text American Government,and focuses on the translation examples and the choice of translation strategy. Theauthor discussed the translation methods, strategies from the perspective of completetranslation and translation variation, and finally achieved certain conclusion.American Government introduces not only how the federal government worksbut also how those institutions have developed over time and their effects on publicpolicy. According to the particularity of the material, the translator will meet quite achallenge in the process of translation. Furthermore, China and the USA are differentin political regime, ideology and political culture, so there may be some modificationwhile translating.From the perspective of complete translation and translation variation, andcombining the political material’s characteristics, the report analyses how thetranslation strategies and skills are applied in the Chinese version of original text, andwhy the translator shall adopt it; and aim to draw a conclusion that completetranslation and translation variation are instructive and meaningful to the translationof political materials. After the analysis, the author gets a conclusion that in thetranslation of political material, one should mainly adopt the strategy of completetranslation to keep the integrity of the original content as much as possible, and usetranslation variations in the translation of sensitive materials to make appropriateadjustment. Finally, a result was obtained that the theory of complete translation andtranslation variation could be applied in the translation of political materials.
