An English-chinese Translation Of A Political Text Utilizing Communicative Translation Strategy

With the rapid promotion of globalization,many countries around the world have pursued a much closer connection in terms of their economies,politics,culture as well as many other aspects resulting from the more frequent contact and exchange.During such a process,politics,as a critical tool for maintaining national interests,has acted an indispensable role in promoting an understanding of one another's development and strategic intentions.Given this,accurate political text translation has become paramount.To illustrate this process,the introduction chapter of China's Military Power: Doctrine Makes Readiness has been selected as the source text for this report.The text itself seeks to give target readers an overview of foreign scholars' opinions and to clear up some misunderstandings about China's political development.Indeed,there are not many former studies utilizing Communicative Translation as a tool to implement effective political text translation,hence,this report,to some extent,has relative significance.From Peter Newmark's point of view,Communicative Translation contains both the advantages of domestication as well as that of free-translation.Consequently,this process takes target language readers into consideration,making the translated text accessible and intelligible to target readers in accordance with their cultural background,language habits and receptivity.Under the direction of Peter Newmark's Communicative Translation approach,combined with other translation methods,including amplification,conversion,and negation as well as restructuring etc,the translator hopes to influence target readers,by correcting any biased opinions and misunderstandings about China's political and military development.This is so that,in future communications,China's national interests are safeguarded.Furthermore,during such a process,target readers can be more appreciative and understanding of China's political and military interests.Finally,with Communicative Translation techniques guiding the political text translation,it is hoped that its application range can be broadened.
