Translation Study Of Political Texts From Narrative Perspective

Emerged in the 1960s,the research range of Narratology initially was always limited to literary text.It is not until recent years that it combines with the translation of such non-literary text as foreign publication,political text etc.Mona Baker is one of the most representative figures,who first proposes the combination between narratology with translation.This paper utilizes such analysis methodology as documentary study,case study as well as software AntConc.3.4.4,taking the English version of 2016 Chinese Report on Government Work as an example for employing classic narrative theory and Mona Baker's post-classic narrative theory.On the one hand,it seeks to analyze the translated text from micro narrative level such as lexical,syntactic,structural and passage dimensions;on the other hand,it focuses on the text from macro narrative level beyond the text such as:Temporal and Spatial Framing,Selective Appropriation of Textual Material,Framing by Labeling,Re-positioning of Participant.Narrating the achievements made by China in the past one year in such aspects as:politics,economy,culture,diplomacy etc as well as the prospect toward 2016 and the 13th Five-Year Period from both micro and macro facets,gradually presents the narrative characteristics and translation strategies of translated text in terms of material appropriation,construction and audiences.Through our analysis,it is found that it is a brand-new experiment for translation practice by integrating narrative theory into translation study,applying into the study of such non-literary text translation as public narrative,foreign publication and political text.It can demonstrate the characteristics of translated text from the aspect of politics,culture,diplomacy,economy and law in both macro and micro narrative level.As far as the translation of Chinese Report on Government Work is concerned,it can better tell Chinese story and convey to the world China's wish of peace loving and opening up,becoming a bridge of mutual communication and understanding between China and the world.
