With the increasing global exchange activities, international meeting documents have become the common objects of translation tasks. Such documents are featured with rich theme and extensive content. The quality of their translation exerts important impact on the meeting arrangement, the participants’correct understanding of the meeting contents, building meeting atmosphere, the image of organizer, and other aspects. This report discusses the Chinese-English translation project which was conducted during the author’s internship in the China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Forum Secretariat. The source texts were the meeting documents (about12,000Chinese Characters) of the2nd Liaison Officials’ Meeting of the China-ASEAN Mining Cooperation Forum and Exhibition, covering a dozen of documents produced within the period from meeting preparation to conclusion. By elaborating and analyzing the whole translation procedures and typical cases, the report aims to explore three aspects of the translation of such documents: with the guidance of Skopos theory, how to define the characteristics of target texts by analyzing the purpose of project and source texts, how to lay a solid foundation for translation by full preparation and prompt communication with clients, how to choose proper translation tactics to achieve the precision and the purpose of language transformation. The report shows that a translator should clarify the purpose and functions of the project translation and take full consideration of the purpose of translation, the demands of clients and the aspiration of target readers. It is hoped that this report provides some referential view for translators in conducting the translation of similar types.
